Bobby: Lead. Male. 8-12
Playing age 10; East Asian; Loveable, energetic, and passionate. Football is life for Bobby. His behaviour is comedic, irrational, but sometimes in denial. In a world of his own, Bobby is often alone and is used to looking after himself. Under the theatrics, there’s a lonely boy yearning to throw a ball with his Dad in the park.

Must have, or be able to perform in a South Wales accent. Ideally, someone who can speak some or at least understand some Cantonese, but not essential. It would be great if he were also a football fan.
Ethnicity: Asian

Dad (Baba): Lead. Male. 39-53
East Asian; Left Hong Kong in the 70s and opened a take-away with his wife. He worked his whole life in a kitchen, his children know the back of his head more than anything else. Baba doesn’t talk much to his children, but he knows them and loves them. Affection comes in the form of cooking homemade food and offering them a future far away from take-out life.

Serious, focused, firm. Frowns a lot. Taciturn. Intimidating as an authoritative father figure. A warm and reassuring softness is hidden inside. Hard worker, never complains. Must speak Cantonese. It would be great if they also have some cooking experience.

Ling: Lead. Female. 16-18
Playing age 16; East Asian; Ling has taken on the role of second Mom while their Mom is away in Hong Kong. Admin, Accountant, Laundry, front of house. Ling would rather be out with her friends partying, being a normal teenager but the crippling feeling of guilt and duty governs her. She is stuck in this take-away bubble, and people come and go out of it.

Multi-tasker. Outgoing, confident, kind. Has a sense of superiority and a rebellious side. Secret teenage life hidden from parents. Struggle with the pressure of family duty.
Must have or be able to do a South Wales accent. Must be able to speak basic Cantonese.

This family has a lot of communication breakdowns, but they all have one universal language for love: homemade food.
