Confident and cheerful, Ellie is an optimist. She’s incredibly smart, innately kind and loves talking to others. Her insatiable curiosity has led her to pursue a PhD in Astrophysics, searching for the origins of the universe and working part-time in an aquarium to fund her research. As she attempts to use her knowledge to guide Martin patiently through his crisis, her positivity wavers. The existential dread that underpins her inquisitiveness begins to show, and anxiety bubbles to the surface.

Despite doing his best to present a brave face during his existential crisis, it is painfully obvious that he is terrified and distraught. He is vulnerable and afraid, and it shows. He is drawn to Ellie’s positivity and identifies with her anxiety.
